One of the most used input types in vmix is the Title. You can use the 4 layers to great effect with the vmix titles or your own images, and create exciting layouts for your service and production. Please enjoy this video walkthrough or read on for a text summary.
Begin by looking at the options for title inputs. Click Add Input in the bottom left corner of vmix and select Title/XAML. Now you can see a large list of premade vmix titles to choose from. Any of the titles that say GT in the corner have animation built right into the slide; usually as a transition in and/or out, but some of them have sustained animation, like the spinners which slowly rotate an image. Chose any title you like, with animation or without, and click OK to import it into your project.
Once you input the title you will be automatically brought to the title editor to add the text you need. There might be multiple headers depending on what title you’ve picked. This is also where you input an image for your title if it has space for an icon, or the clock settings if you have chosen a timer. Choose the font, size, and colour of your text with the setting above the text box.
Once you have your title filled out how you want it, just close the title window. If you need to get back to this window to make any changes, right-click on the input box.
As with all inputs, click the cog to change the name and category of the input to help stay organized. For more information on sorting inputs read the Making Categories article.
To add the title as a layer on top of your current output use the layer numbers at the bottom of your input window, 1-4. This allows you to have up to 4 inputs layered on top of the main one, with 1 being the topmost layer and 4 being the bottom just above the base input.
If you need to adjust the location of one of your titles so they are not in each other’s way, use the cog and select position. Click on the title in the window at the bottom and drag it to the desired location. You may find with certain titles the zoom and pan do not function as expected. This is because they are conflicting with the scripting that gives them animation, so it is best to move it with your mouse and adjust any sizing with the font settings in the title editor.
Titles are not the only input you can layer; any input that does not fill the entire screen will work. Try this with a re-positioned image to start.
Bring in an image using Add Input and Image. Use the cog and select position once again. Use the zoom functions to make sure there is a checkerboard showing in the preview anywhere you want the original input to be visible. Make this image smaller and position it to where you would want it showing over the output. Now this can be used just like a title and layered with the layer Numbers. Any visual input can be used in this way.
Don’t forget to save your template if you have added something you plan on using in your production, and close it without saving if you are just experimenting.
I encourage you to experiment with different titles and layers, they can be very useful in making interesting and diverse scenes for your services.
Happy streaming and God bless.
