Do you find your vmix a mess, or hard to find anything in? Sorting your different inputs into colour coordinated categories is incredibly helpful to stay organized and find the things you need while you are in the middle of a production. It is recommended for both advanced and new users!
Please enjoy this video walkthrough showing you how, or read-on for text instructions.
Sorting into categories is a two-step process; making the categories and sorting the inputs.
The categories are the coloured boxes found above the input window. The grey one will always contain every input that you have put into this presentation. Clicking on any of the colours will bring you to that section with only what you have set to that colour.
Start by creating the categories! Right-click on the boxes to bring up the menu. Lable the categories however you like to help you stay organized. Some common categories might be images, videos, titles, or conferences, but make them to whatever suits your production. Keep in mind that the grey will always have all of them, so it’s best to label it something like ‘all’ or ‘main’.
Now that you have your sections how you want them, start sorting all your inputs into those sections. Click on the gear on the lower right side of any input to bring up the details for that item. In the general section (this first one that appears when you bring it up) you will see the same seven coloured squares under the name and aspect ratio of the input. Click on whichever colour you have set for that type of item, and close it off. Do this for all existing items and you will always be able to find them under that colour. Don’t forget to save your template!
From this point on, it is a simple thing to make sure that you click on the right colour category when you add a new input and name it, so keeping things organized will not take as long as sorting it all the first time. So now you can always enjoy a well-sorted production!
